Busted! Unbelievable activities done by the AI students intended to sneak in!

 You won't believe the kind of flagrant AI stuff my students try to sneak in!

Alrigh, we all know artificial intelligence is here to stay. Not a big deal. It's not gonna turn into Skynet and try to kill us all, isn't it? Isn't it? OK, it will, eventually, once it controls all the weapons and starts to fight us for resources. Not a great starter, sorry.

But let's go back to ESL seondary school students' work. Isn't it too much? I mean, did you have to upload the entire image for the Chat GPT to do it for you? I'm not against technology, not even AI. But the idea is to use it to help you, not for it to do it for you! Nothing new here, school projects have been done by parents since the beginning of times. School work has been done by private teachers, tuition NGOs, or relatives for a long time. Cheating in tests has been done for quite a long time, too. Copying from cheat strips (called "trencito" or "little train" in Uruguay, or "machete" in Argentina), then came the internet with all sorts of cheating websites (top of the top here in the River Plate is "Rincón del Vago", the Lazy Corner).

And AI came along. The artificial intelligence that has for so long been forseen in sci-fi movies since the beginning of times, seems to be finally working thanks to fast enough computers. Nothing can stop it, let's face it. Hundreds of billions of dollars being invested in new computer banks all over the world won't go back.

Just like playing Civilization (being the first version my all time favourite, I love that game!) We have to accept AI just as humankind took in the concept of fire, wheel, gunpowder, printing press, steam engine, internal combustion engine, nuclear power, the internet, and so on.

Having the AI doing your work for you is not helping you learn, it's just using a cheat sheet you haven't written. You can use AI just as you used the books, to help you learn. But we teachers have to adapt as well. Prohibition never works, it didn't work with alcohol a century ago, it won't work with cell phones or AI. It just won't. 

If you're expecting a conclusion full of answers, it won't happen. I don't have any answer either. I'm just trying to face this new phenomenon that will affect us all. I just know burning the printing presses didn't prevent the Renaissance to happen, breaking the steam machines didn't prevent the Industrial Revolution to roll, and banning the AI won't prevent whatever revolution is coming!
